About IWC Stockholm

Founded in 1961, The International Women’s Club of Stockholm (IWC) is a social organization serving 400 members of 65 different nationalities. The Club’s main objectives are to welcome women who have recently arrived in Sweden and to help further their knowledge and understanding of this country. Significantly, the Club supports a variety of philanthropic projects, primarily for children, both in Sweden and abroad. In 1982, HRH Princess Lilian kindly agreed to become the Club’s Patron, and has generously shared her time. She regularly participates in the Club’s philanthropic events and other activities.

Monthly Luncheon
The monthly luncheons are open to as many members as possible, and include a programme relating to aspects of Swedish society and culture or of multi-cultural interest. In keeping with the Club’s current interests, these programs include lectures, musical performances, and fashion shows.

Philanthropic Work
The Club wholeheartedly sponsors special events to raise funds for philanthropic purposes. One of the key goals is to raise much needed funs to help women and children around the world. Lotteries are held at some events – prizes are donated by companies, individual members and friends of the Club. The audited financial statements of the Club are published at the beginning of each Club Year as per the constitution and in accordance with standard accounting principles.

Keeping Members Informed
The IWC Bulletin contains information on all the different aspects of Club life. It is published monthly (except during the summer) and mailed to each member.

Social activities Tours – Trips
Each month activities are planned for members. They vary tremendously in style to suit different interests and tastes including: book club, meditation, play reading, Swedish orientation, international language conversation, cards and games, sports and fitness, crafts and hobbies, multi-cultural healthy cooking, baby and toddler support, museum tours and bible study.

To learn more about this beautiful City we live in, the Club organizes tours to places of interest in and around Stockholm. Once a year the international coordinator organises a trip and visit with a sister Club in another country.

The International Character
IWC Stockholm welcomes members of all nationalities. We maintain close ties with our sister clubs nearby – IWC Copenhagen, IWC Helsinki, The International Forum of Norway, IWC Gothenburg, the American Women’s Club and the Diplomatic Women’s Club of Stockholm. IWC Stockholm also is part of a large international network of International Women’s Clubs belonging to the “Open Door Organization,” founded by Mrs. Elisabeth Sammann, with headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands.
