Annual Report - Club Year 2006/2007

I owe my very smooth transition into this role to L. Doumeche-Hall, my predecessor. I am happy to report that some new activities have started: Chinese Calligraphy initiated and led by G. Guo; Women at Work’ activity aimed at generating knowledge and support for those interested in setting up their own business in Sweden initiated by A. Vonck; Evening book club initiated by K. Beck & P.Axelson-Johnson; Film club which I got underway. I am sure that these activities will become even more firmly established in the Club activity calendar next year.

Heartfelt thanks to you all work on behalf of the Club and also for your co-operation and courtesy experienced in the preparation of the monthly bulletin information. Thanks also to those who hosted various activities each month and not forgetting you members who support these activities, and make it all worthwhile. Activity coordinators play an invaluable role in the life of the club – organizing activities where members have an opportunity to take part in a wide variety of activities – some graciously carry out this role from year to year and some step forward to the challenge when a leader is needed! Among those who have continued from previous year include R. Kashyap & L. Wretman-Close (Bridge), I. Lindblad (Shakespeare Plays), A. von Gegerfelt & S. Sheard (Book circles 1
and 2), K. Beck (Discussion & Meditation), B. Frick-Meijer (Walking), L.
Doumeche-hall (French), A. Grull-Schlabach (German conversation), J.
Björling & R. Pisano (Italian conversation), J. Runakko and M. Leijonborg
(Quilting). Those who stepped forward to lead activities include E.
Precht (Swedish conversation), H. van der Kleij (Spanish conversation)
and R. Pfeiffer (Multicultural gourmet cooking group). Thanks to
L.Gråberg who lead Russian conversation for many years. Currently there
are no Russian or English conversation groups – opportunities no doubt
my successor will be anxious to exploit so there are opportunities waiting
those who wish to lead or join these activities.

Members Services are activities provided at a charge to other members and new opportunities this year included art classes in both acrylics and watercolor in addition to learning bridge and golf classes, Hatha yoga & Pilates and Tai Ji and Health dance.

Obs! section initiated late in the previous Club year has proven popular and has given members an opportunity to communicate interesting events and exhibitions on offer to fellow members each month. Thank you to all contributors and to B. Kran & K. Beck for the ‘Find a Way’ support group.

During the year my personal business commitments increased substantially to a point where it is not possible for me to continue on the Board in 2007-08. My board membership both as Social Activities Chairperson and previously Secretary for 2 years was a richly rewarding experience, enabling much deeper and satisfying participation in the Club, working with members from many countries. Special thanks in this regard to President L. Amazeen and previous President S. Rizzi-Lenahan and Board colleagues.

Thanks to you all and best wishes to my successor.

Respectfully submitted,
Olga Irish
