Annual Report Club Year
2005-2006
The
following tours were organized during the Club year 2005-2006:
September 15: City walk through Kungsholmen (old Jewish Cemetery, Tull
Museum, Kvinnohuset, Stadshagen, Sankt Görans Church, Kronobergs Park,
Rådhuset).
October 5: Day trip to Sigtuna on a sunny October day with guided tour to
the archaeological sites by Sten Tesch, Director of Sigtuna Museum, and walk
through the beautiful old town on Lake Mälaren. Visit to Sigtuna Stiftelsen
with the rose garden.
November 15: Visit to Täby Kyrka, famous for its vault paintings from 1480
by Albertus Pictor. Our guide was Rolf Beck.
December 1: Invitation to a “Beauty and Glögg Party” at Skin Plan Centre.
Our charming hostess was IWC member Martina Richter who had prepared a
traditional Swedish glögg buffet and informed us about modern skin care
methodology.
December 13: Lucia Celebration at Gudrun Westin Göransson´s home with songs,
glögg, coffee and lussekatter (saffron buns) in a friendly, festive
atmosphere.
January 12: Swedish artist Solveig Thorsell talked about decorative painting
and faux finishes in her home on Karlavägen and invited us to a luxury
buffet. She encouraged us to learn these techniques and to discover our
hidden talents.
January 19: Lecture on Raoul Wallenberg on Lidingö by Kulturintendent Louise
Schlyter and Kate Wacz and visit to the Raoul Wallenberg Monument on a very
cold winter day. Coffee, tea and cake generously provided by Louise Schlyter.
February 7: Invitation to Paul de Vence Esthetic Institute on Drottninggatan,
located in a beautiful historical building owned by the National Museum.
Lots of information on the latest trends in hair and skin treatment by
Managing Director Zarina Virsholm and her competent colleagues. Coffee, tea
and sandwiches generously served.
February 20: Visit to Ericsson Experience Centre with lectures on the
history of this successful telecommunication company and new developments in
this area. How interesting to see the first big and unhandy telephones!
Husbands and children were also invited and had lots of fun at this evening
event.
March 7: Visit to the Great Synagogue in the centre of Stockholm with
information on Jewish life and customs. Our guide Mainard Gerber was very
patient in answering our never ending questions and even sang parts from the
Thora.
April 8: Visit to Carin Ljungman´s Alpaca Farm, named Hamra Gård. Carin is a
generous, charming hostess and offered lots of refreshments. Family and
friends were welcome to this Saturday event.

When I became Tours Chairperson
in September 2004, I was a bit nervous at the thought of having to organize
9 tours in one Club year. Yet there were even more events in the end and so
it was again this year. It was a pleasure to work as a Tours Chairperson
because so many people helped me with good ideas and contacts. I could have
organized a tour nearly every week!
First of all I want to thank the members of the Tours Committee who were
always ready to help when it was needed. It was a pleasure to work with you,
dear Olga Lagerstedt, Rannveig Sigurdardottir, Anita Wegelius Bergström and
Gudrun Westin Göransson!
I also want to thank all the IWC members who helped me with good ideas and
who showed interest in the tours by joining them. It was my aim to offer a
big variety and to organize some tours on a Saturday and in the evening to
give the “working girls” the chance to take part.
I hope you learned more about Stockholm and its surroundings and hopefully
you made some friends during the tours.
And finally I want to thank all our partners who so generously invited us,
devoted their time and thus made all these interesting events possible.
I wish you all a beautiful summer and look forward to joining the tours
organized by the next Tours Chairperson!
Respectfully submitted,
Renate Pfeiffer
Tours Chairperson
