IWC-Stockholm visit to BIWC Berlin
Sunday 07 May 2006 -
Nineteen enthusiastic ladies from IWC Stockholm began
our visit to Berlin. After transferring to our hotel, "Comfort Hotel
Frühling am
Zoo", we had a few hours for a quick peek around our host venue – and
prepare
for dinner. At 19.00, two ladies of the BIWC Berlin greeted us at our hotel
and
escorted us to an Italian restaurant named "Perscarella". We ate, chatted,
ate
some more, and laughed our way through the evening meeting many of B-IWC’s
members, enjoying the company and the ample cuisine. Berlin-IWC president,
Berit Sundahl opened with welcomed us on behalf of the Club by presenting
each
one of us with a handy travel folder full of information about Berlin, an
invitation
to their "Stammtisch" (their club dinner meeting), helpful tourist
information
(including a map of Berlin), a personalized name tag, and pen.
Monday 08 May - Mrs. Ursula Geike-Garson and Mrs. Hildegard Kopitsch led our
exploration of Berlin by boat, by bus, and on foot. We sailed leisurely down
the Spree under a beautiful blue sky and a bright shiny sun. By bus, we
continued on to Potsdam meeting some more BIWC ladies for a delicious lunch
at the very famous and historical "CECILIENHOF" enjoying both the company
and the scenery. Finally, we used our free time to explore Berlin on foot in
small groupsor on our own.
Later, in the evening, we took the Metro Underground to the Berlin – IWC’s
monthly club meeting at Trader Vic’s located in the Hilton Hotel. BIWC
president, Berit welcomed us most cordially and I responded in kind,
presenting some gifts and extending an open invitation to BIWC club members
to visit IWC, Stockholm, May 2007.
Tuesday 09 May – A very special breakfast awaited us this morning!
Taking the underground once again, the ladies of BIWC brought us to the very
famous restaurant
“KÄFER”, located within the REICHSTAG - for a sumptuously elegant champagne
breakfast. Mrs. Monika Telger and Mrs. Stephanie Mosler also joined us in a
guided tour through the dome of the Reichstag (Bundestags-Kuppel).
Afterwards we split up into smaller groups, exploring some of Berlin’s many
interesting historic sites, parks and gardens, and stores as our personal
tastes led us.
Wednesday 10 May -
Former BIWC member, Mrs. Betty Porges kindly invited us for a guided walking
tour around the "Scheunenviertel" (the old Jewish district) and other
historical parts of the city, stopping along the way for a leisurely coffee
break. In the evening, our ladies enjoyed some of Berlin’s extensive evening
entertainments going to the theater, a concert, or a musical of their choice.
Thursday 11 May - A free day - custom-made for shopping, museum
visits, galleries,
or the simple pleasure of just relaxing in the glorious Berlin spring
weather. That evening, we enjoyed a very happy and lively farewell Dinner at
"Leibnitz Klause" together with many of Berlin-IWC club ladies.
Friday 12 May - 8.00
hours departure from our Hotel and 10.25 onboard return flight to Stockholm.
Thank you BIWC, with very special thanks to Mrs. Monika Telger, Stephanie
Mosler, Ursula Geike-Garson, and Hildegard Kopitsch, who graciously met
and participated in most of our tours. This visit to our sister club was
memorable for the hospitality shown to us by Berlin-IWC. Ruth and I
sincerely hope IWCStockholm extends an equally cordial invitation to BIWC,
doing our utmost to return the hospitality we enjoyed from this wonderful
group of ladies.
