IWC Stockholm visit to IWA of Graz

On Thursday, May 22nd 2008 – Eighteen enthusiastic ladies from our club began their visit from Arlanda to Graz airport. We were received by the international coordinator of Graz , Mrs. Bettina Dornhofer. After transferring to our hotel, IBIS am Bahnhof – we had a few hours for a quick peek around our host venue and at the same time we waited for 5 ladies of our club who arrived in Graz via Vienna at a later hour.

The programme which IWA Graz had prepared for us started early Friday morning. At 9.45 meeting point, Tourism Office in the city ‐ 10.00 –12.00 walking tour in old town – 12.15‐13.45 lunch at AltsteierischeSchmankerlstube in Old town‐ 13.45 visit to Armory Museum (medieval) – 15.00‐18.00 visit to Kunsthaus and other Joanneum Museum. 18.30 Dinner at a very nice, typical Austrian restaurant where we met with some of the ladies of IWA, Graz.

Saturday,May 24th: 9.00 bus tour in eastern Styria with a personal guide – visit Schloss Kornburg – continued to Austrias famous chocolate factory, ZOTTER. We , with great delight tasted all their chocolate brands. After appr. 2 hours our bus took us to the medieval fortress, Riegensburg, had lunch and enjoyed the fantastic vue of the countryside. Later visited Göllers vinegar manufacturer where we had the opportunity to taste their “Schnaps” and vinegar which are made out of different fruits and vegetables, such as tomatos, “Kuerbiskerne” etc. Back in Graz at
appr. 18.00 – during this bus tour some of the ladies of IWA participated and we had the opportunity to talk and learn more of our and their club activities – this was a very cheerfull and happy bus tour for us and our host ladies.

Sunday,May 25th: 9.45 we took the tram nr.1 to Schloss Eggenberg and had a guided tour – 11.00‐12.30 visited park in English garden style, had coffee, cake etc. at the park café – 13.15‐17.30 visit to the Basilica Maria Trost (pilgrimage church). In the evening we had dinner together with some of our host ladies at a famous restaurant outside town – Landhaus Jöbstl, where we had a typical styrian dinner – I took the opportunity to say thank you IWA Graz for their invitation and for their great effort in organizing. Ruth and I handed over some gifts from our club to those ladies, preparing and organizing our visit.

Monday,May 26th: 10.30 guided tour of Uhrturm (Clock tower), visit to Schlossberg, bell tower and fortress – This was a walking tour. At 12.30 we were invited by – City Graz – for a reception at City Hall (buffet lunch with champagne) and were greeted by the 2nd Mayor of Graz ( a lady) – We exchanged gifts‐ a book about Sweden from us (donated by Ruth) and received a book about the history of Graz. This reception was very cheerfull and we had, together with our host ladies again the chance to meet, make friends and exchange addresses and telephone numbers.

Tuesday,May 27th: Departure early morning – taxi transfer to Graz airport. Thank you IWA Graz, with special thanks to Mrs. Bettina Dornhofer and Ulli who graciously met and participated in most of our tous. This visit to our sister club was memorable for the hospitality shown to us by IWA Graz. Ruth and I sincerely hope that IWA will give us the pleasure of a return visit and be sure we will do our utmost to return the hospitality we enjoyed from this wonderful group of ladies.
